Introduction

The 'From Planets to Galaxies, 2010' workshop is going to be held at Eötvös University (ELTE) in Budapest, Hungary, between the 26th of June and 3rd of July, 2010. The meeting is going to focus on many rapidly evolving fields of Astrophysics. It is going to consist of five days of lecture series by invited speakers and a two-day excursion to a signature wine region of Hungary. It will coincide with the second round of matches at the Soccer World Cup and we intend to watch these games together on our large screen at the Visualization Center at Eötvös. We had a similar workshop here 4 years ago.

For information Eötvös University please visit: www.elte.hu. For information on cultural background and tourist attractions, visit: www.hungary.com. We plan to visit Villány during Wednesday and Thursday, a southern wine region, near Pécs. Pécs is a (one of three) European Capital of Culture in 2010, and we will have a chance to participate in cultural events there as well.

Directions and Venue

The best ways to get from Ferihegy airport to downtown Budapest and to the ELTE campus is either to take the "Airport Minibus" service or a taxicab. The airport offers money exchange service.

The Airport Minibus operation is a door-to-door minivan shuttle service. Shuttles can be booked at the airport after landing, at the Airport Minibus desk. Travel times may depend on the number of passangers. The current Minibus charge is about 10 Euros, one way, within Budapest.

There are many curb-side taxis waiting at the airport, but it is more economical and possibly more reliable to hire one on the payphones at the terminals. Most of these companies arrive within 5 minutes and have a fixed rate of less than HUF 5000 (about 20 Euros) one way, to the city. Fötaxi has a toll-free number (dial 06-80-222-2222 from any public phone). There are several other companies to consider (such as City Taxi, Budataxi, Rádiotaxi, 6x6 Taxi) with similar rates, and their numbers are posted at the airport.

The venue is set at the "Lágymányos Campus" of Eötvös University (ELTE) is in the South West of the city, on the Buda side, on the banks of the Danube river. The workshop will be held in Room -2.09 of the North Building of the Faculty of Natural Sciences (ELTE-TTK, Északi tömb). The street address is: Pázmány Péter sétány 1/A, gate III. For the reception on Saturday evening (or for the first soccer match before the reception!), please proceed to the main entrance of the building, facing the Danube (gate no. III.), and follow the posted signs.

The campus is easy to approach from various points of downtown Budapest as the stop on two major tram lines (tram no. 4 and no. 6) is located just north of the building hosting the workshop.

Accommodation

We made a block reservation at Hotel Ramada (nice hotel just across the Danube, two tram stops if you do not want to walk). They serve breakfast (included), have unlimited wireless internet, air cinditioning, etc. Our "promotional code" is LKFP. Rooms go for 80/90 Euros (single/double).

Directions from Hotel Gellért: The ELTE Campus is a 15 minute (about 1 km) walk from the hotel, southwards, along the Danube. Also recommended.

We will reserve a few rooms for those on the budget at Bolyai Dorm. Directions from ELTE Bolyai Dorm: Please refer to their website. A map under 'How to reach the college' link shows possible public transportation and walking routes between the dorm and the ELTE TTK North Building.

For additional directions please refer to the map or contact Zsolt Frei.
